We can host this course at our office in London or we can come to you and run the course at your office or venue.

This is a crash course that will get you work ready and working with 2D venue CAD files quickly and efficiently.

For instance:

  • Using scale CAD drawings you can ensure and prove that you can fit the right amount of chairs in the venue whist leaving room for a fire lane
  • You can prove that the chosen stage position ensures visibility from all seats and you have allowed enough room to fit in the back stage marquees etc

The course resources included colour printed notes, cheat sheets, custom templates and a USB library of blocks to help you quickly create professional drawings – the block library includes: speakers, lights, AV equipment, truss, tables, chairs, staging, generators, trees, marquees etc – everything you need to quickly work with a CAD drawing.

The course also includes a certificate of completion and on-going CAD support by our industry experts via email.

Overview

  • Live one-to-one tuition with a CAD expert who is an events industry professional
  • Prior to the training Cortex Training can deliver a training pack that includes a second 24" HD LED monitor, USB mouse, USB Headset, printed course notes and the course resources.
  • The course centres around learning the basic functions of AutoCAD so the user will be able to work with 2D venue CAD plans.
  • Learn to open and read venue CAD plans and ynderstand how to check the scale of the drawings
  • Master taking measurements from the drawings
  • Learn to add basic annotations and text to the venue plans, so you can add set up information to the drawings
  • Learn to work with blocks - drag and drop chairs, sofas, trees, plants, speakers and lights in the drawing
  • Understand how to create seating plans using the array function
  • Understands the basics of using layers
  • Create layouts of the venue plan, so you can create print outs and PDFs of each room and section of the event

What is covered

  • AutoCAD is the industry standard drawing program for the events industry
  • This is a one day crash course – you will be able to work with 2D venue CAD plans after this course
  • This course has been designed so event professionals can work with pre-existing drawings
  • Learn the basics of measuring, adding text and dropping in blocks
  • By the end of the course you will be able to take a 2D venue CAD plan and create a event plan using the Block Library
  • You will also be able to take shared CAD drawings and create a layer that contains the event design – this drawing could then be shared with other sub-contractors

Requirements

  • i7 Mac or PC computer
  • Free account with Zoom.us – desktop app installed on the student's computer prior to the training.
  • Demo, educational or subscription version of AutoCAD 2017/2018/2019/2020 or 2021 installed prior to the training
  • USB mouse
  • Optional items: Second external monitor (24" or above)
    USB Headset with microphone (if run over Zoom)
