We were approached by the charity A New Direction, who work with young adults, to design a two-day ‘Careers Boot Camp’. This became a dynamic and fun couple of days where the youth entered onto the programme were given an assessment of their CVs, some possible training and vocational pathways they could take and some practical workshops.

The workshops really gave the attendees both food-for-thought and a basic understanding of several key elements to do with the events industry: setting up microphones and a PA system, event lighting and video projections and presentations. We rotated the groups so that everyone got to try a bit of each of these three areas and the response was great.

Many people felt that the sessions were the right balance between practical and theory and were enthusiastic to try out new skills. Everyone also left with a great resource pack and a shortlist of further avenues to explore, should they wish to enter the events industry. One student even ended up on a work placement at one of our partners, PF Events.
